Dakhla has wind for most of the year. The peak season is June to September, with the strongest winds from June to August. March to May and October bring lighter wind, which suits beginners. November to February is the quieter off-season.
Yes. The lagoon's flat, shallow water makes it one of the easier places to learn. Intermediate riders can work on jumps and tricks, and advanced riders have freestyle spots and long downwinders.
Private lessons start at €120 for 2 hours with one-on-one instruction. Packages are available, such as 6 hours for €350 or 12 hours for €670.
Semi-private lessons (1 instructor for 2 students) are priced per person: €100 for 2 hours, €270 for 6 hours, or €540 for 12 hours.
All lessons include gear, transport, and beach assistance.
You fly into Dakhla Airport (VIL), about 5 km north of the city. The lagoon camps are a 30 to 40 minute drive away, and most camps and hotels can arrange a transfer.
You can stay at a camp on the lagoon, a few steps from the water, or in a hotel or guesthouse in Dakhla city, which is cheaper and closer to restaurants but means a daily drive to the spot. There's something for every budget.
